Why I'm building StorageFlow

I went shopping for storage management software the way most operators do: spreadsheet open, coffee going cold, optimism draining by the tab.

The first thing I learned is that half the industry won't tell you what their product costs. "Pricing available upon request." Every time I saw that phrase it turned out to mean the same three things: an annual contract, a setup fee somewhere between $1,000 and $2,000, and a demo call with someone whose job was to figure out how much I could afford before quoting me. That's not a pricing model. That's a poker game where the vendor has seen your cards.

The second thing I learned is that a lot of this software bills you per unit, which sounds harmless right up until you notice what it implies: build phase two and your software bill congratulates you with an increase. You get punished for the exact thing the software is supposed to help you do. The comparison post runs the actual math.

And the third thing — the one that actually made me laugh out loud — is what these companies brag about. "Cloud-based" listed as a differentiator in 2026. Windows desktop apps you install from a download link. There's a whole taxonomy of this stuff, and I wrote it up separately because it deserves more than a paragraph.

The software wasn't old because storage operators like old software. It was old because the contracts made leaving hurt more than staying.

So I built the thing I wanted to buy.

StorageFlow is free for your first facility. Not free-for-14-days. Free, one facility, forever, because a single-site operator getting started shouldn't be a revenue line. Pro is $39 a month plus a small share of collected rent, and that share is capped — the bill stops climbing even when your portfolio doesn't. No setup fee. Month-to-month, because if I can't keep you with the product I don't deserve to keep you with a contract. And tenants can be passed the card processing fees, so you keep 100% of your rent instead of quietly donating 3% of it to a payment processor.

Then there's the part I'm most stubborn about. Competitive market data — the kind that gets sold as a standalone subscription, priced per market, at rates that rival an entire software bill — is bundled into StorageFlow at no charge. 7.4 million live price points, refreshed every day. Knowing what the facility down the road charges shouldn't be a luxury product.

The newest piece is an AI voice receptionist, in early access now. The first time it picked up a call for me — quoted a live rate, put a real 48-hour hold on a real unit — was one of the stranger moments of building this thing. It also won't read account details out to a caller, however convincing they sound, because your tenants' information isn't a party trick. The move-in guide walks through the whole flow.

If you want receipts instead of a founder's word, they're on the compare page — nine competitors, sources linked.

I'm building this in public and I'm easy to find. Tell me what's broken.
